The mission of the library is to encourage a lifelong love of reading, to enhance and extend classroom learning through the utilization of varied resources, and to prepare students for lifetime use of libraries and information sources.
Library Goals
The goals of the St. Mary Magdalen Library Media Center are:
1. To foster a lifelong love of reading in our students.
2. To promote information literacy and to provide opportunities for students to evaluate and utilize information effectively.
"The library provides resources that implement, support and enrich the school curriculum. Library resources are chosen to provide users with a wide range of educational materials, at appropriate levels of difficulty and in a variety of formats, which reflect diversity of appeal and allow for the presentation of differing points of view." (School Library Curriculum Guide, Catholic Diocese of Wilmington, 2012, p. 31)
Support the SMM Library every time you shop using Box Tops for Education! Send in your clipped, unexpired Box Tops with your child so we can earn more money for our school. You can redeem e-Box Tops at the Box Tops website by creating a login and password and routing them to SMM!
If you have magazine subscriptions, the library would be glad to accept your month-old issues when you get your new magazine. Some titles that we are looking for are: Time, Sports Illustrated, Highlights, National Geographic Kids, and others. Contact Mrs. Geraghty for more details.
Our library could not function without the help of our parent volunteers! Your time and talents help our classes run smoothly and our students benefit from the gift of your presence! If you are interested in serving as your child's library class volunteer (grades K-3), please contact Mrs. Tracy for more details. All library volunteers must complete the For the Sake of God's Children training.
Please use this Google Sheets page to sign up to volunteer in the library. Slots are available through March:
Library Volunteer Signup
We are always looking to add quality materials that supplement the curriculum to our collection. If you would like to donate a book to the library as a celebration of your child's birthday, a donation plate can be added with the name and grade of the donor!
We are also interested in other donations such as book carts or bookends! Please contact Mrs. Tracy for more details or with any questions.
